HYSOL PROJECT VISIT TO COBRA’S MANCHASOL CSP POWER PLANT

manchasol visit

During the 6th month meeting of the HYSOL project organized by the project coordinator, COBRA, and held on 26th and 27th of November 2013, a visit to have an onsite acquaintance of the operation of Manchasol solar power plant was made on the first day. Representatives of all project partners can be seen in the event’s picture at the plant entrance: COBRA, PSA-CIEMAT, ENEA, IDie, AITESA, DTU – Management Engineering group, UPM – Politechnical University of Madrid, and SDLO-PRI of the Wageningen University.

Manchasol is composed of two twin power plants, of 50 MWe each: Manchasol 1 and Manchasol 2. Each plant has a 510,120 m2 parabolic trough solar field of captive surface, and 7.5 hours of storage to generate 180,000 MWh/year. The complex is in operation since 2010 and has already generated 1,000 GWh of electricity and avoided 650,000 tn of CO2. HYSOL project will develop a demonstrator to be installed within the plant facilities in the innovation complex owned by COBRA.

The meeting was key for coordinating and fine-tuning the initial technical details among the project partners, and thus keep the project with a successful progress pace. This is the second official meeting held after the signature of the Grant Agreement and start of the project, 1st of May 2013. The demonstration project is financed by FP7 of the European Commission.

@HYSOL - This project has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement No 308912.
